　　Qianshan is a new economic zone with a population of more than three hundred thousand. Before the reform and opening up, Qianshan was only a small fishing-dominated village. There was no industry developing here and there were only a couple of schools. However, with the reform and opening up, everything has greatly changed. From then on, many foreign investors invest in here, which promotes rapid economic growth. Many large factories and a large port have been built. The port connects with many cities at home and abroad. In addition, there is train station and airport. They contribute a well-developed transportation system. Education has been greatly developed and the first university has been built here. There has been three thousand students graduated from this university. I am sure that Qianshan will be more international in the near future.

　　Food is human’s basic need, yet it differs from culture to culture. Color, aroma and taste have been regarded as the basics of Chinese culinary art. In the long history of Chinese course development, there are many differences between the Southern and Northern tastes. Generally speaking, the southern courses emphasize freshness and tenderness; while the northern courses are oilier. As a typically southerner, I prefer freshness and pure flavor. So my favorite food is steaming fish.

　　飲食是人類最基本的需求，但飲食因文化而異。色香味一直被看做是中華飲食文化的基本要素。在中國飲食文化歷史發(fā)展的'長河中，南方菜和北方菜有很多不同。一 般來說，南方菜更注重鮮、嫩，而北方菜相對比較油膩。作為一個典型的南方人，我更喜愛鮮美和純粹的味道。所以，清蒸魚是我最喜歡的菜。

　　Steaming fish is a classical Guang Dong dish. It’s famous for light, soft and slippery taste. The material must be fresh, and the cook must control the heat to make sure the fish remain tender and pure. Put the fresh fish in the pot to steam for 8 minutes with mild heat. Before the dish is finished, add a spoon of oil and some chopped green onion and a spoon of soy sauce, and then the steaming fish is done. My mother is very good at cooking this course. I really love the way she cook the fish, not only maintain the original flavors of the fish, but also provide with enough protein.

　　清蒸魚是一道經(jīng)典的廣東菜，以口味清談、魚肉細(xì)滑而著名。所用材料必須新鮮，廚師需掌控好火候，以此保證魚肉的鮮嫩。將鮮魚放在鍋中,用文火蒸8分鐘。在 出鍋之前，加一小勺油和一些蔥花及一勺醬油，清蒸魚就做好了。我的母親很擅長烹飪這道菜。我非常喜歡她做的清蒸魚，不僅僅保留了魚的鮮美，也提供了足夠的 蛋白質(zhì)。

　　The only thing on my husband s description would be the word fun written in big red letters along the top. Although he is a selfless caregiver and provider, our children think of him more as a combination of a jungle gym and bozo and clown.

　　Our parenting styles compliment each other. His style is a nonstop adventure where no one has to worry about washing their hands, eating vegetables, or getting cavities. My style is similar to Mussolini. I m too busy worrying to be fun. Besides, every time I try, I am constantly outdone by my husband.I bought my children bubble gum flavored toothpaste and I taught them how to brush their teeth in tiny circles so they wouldn t get cavities. They thought it was neat until my husband taught them how to rinse by spitting out water between their two front teeth like a fountain.I took the children on a walk in the woods and, after two hours, I managed to corral a slow ladybug into my son s insect cage. I was cool until their father came home, spent two minutes in the backyard, and captured a beetle the size of a Chihuahua.

　　I try to tell myself I am a good parent even if my husband does things I can t do. I can make sure my children are safe, warm, and dry. I ll stand in line for five hours so the children can see Santa at the mall or be first in line to see the latest Disney movie. But I can t wire the VCR so my children can watch their favorite video.I can carry my children in my arms when they are tired, tuck them into bed, and kiss them goodnight. But I can t flip them upside down so they can walk on the ceiling or prop them on my shoulders so they can see the moths flying inside of the light fixture.I can take them to doctor appointments, scout meetings, or field trips to the aquarium, but I ll never go into the wilderness, skewer a worm on a hook, reel in a fish, and cook it over an open flame on a piece of tin foil.
