Being aware of the differences that exist between cultures and knowing how to act when we are faced with puzzling cross-cultural situations are important skills for harmonious intercultural relations.
Cross-cultural research shows that we can examine all cultures by using a basic taxonomy of cultural behaviors which allows us to see the differences and similarities among cultures.
This article provides students with knowledge and activities to enhance their awareness of cultural patterns among the different cultures of the world.
In the following lesson students will learn about basic attitudes different cultures have toward three cultural value dimensions: the role of the individual in a society, power distance, and time orientation. Students will then apply this knowledge in activities that require them to decide how to act in cross-cultural situations based on the information they have learned about that cultures values.

Because of the heat it is a trying experience to go to school or do anything else in a place that is not air-conditioned. Also because of this I stay at home most of the time during the summer vacation and occasionally go to the beach to plunge myself into the cool water as a way to keep my body less sticky. Actually I like swimming think nothing is more refreshing than a swim. In the summer vacation that has ended I went swimming many times with my classmates we all had a good time. This summer vacation, however, was not spent entirely in seeking fun. As a second-year senior student I had to prepare myself for the college entrance examinations that were a year away. In other words, I must find time to study, too. So I divided my time between work play during the summer vacation derived benefit from this arrangement.

There is a tourist attraction in my hometown - the bund. It is located in the riverside of ruian city, the scenery is spectacular.
When I came to the bund, the first thing I saw was two giant pillars, a stone in the middle of the big column, with the four big words "the bund of Ryan". It's really magnificent. When you walk in, you will find two stone steps, and the six pillars will appear before me. I wanted to go up and feel it, but a more magnificent sight attracted me. A torrent of rivers flows through my eyes. Let me think of a poem "day by mountain, Yellow River flow". At this moment I finally realized the ancient people's state of mind.

遠(yuǎn)處傳來一陣陣輪船鳴笛聲，熱鬧一天的外灘也隨著這聲鳴笛安靜下來了。
