　　Nowadays, students attach little importance to the study of Chinese.

　　There are three reasons contributing to this phenomenon. First of all, the importance of English has been over-stressed by the society as globalization has made the whole world a village and English has become the dominant language in the world. Our attention has been drawn to the learning of English, and thus the study of Chinese has been neglected. Besides, colleges have encouraged students to spend more time on the study of English; while on the contrary, on campus we seldom have Chinese classes. Limited concern has been put on the learning of Chinese. What's more, it is natural to neglect the study of Chinese due to the wrong impression that as native speakers, we all have a good command of Chinese. This phenomenon will do harm to the development of our culture in the long run.

　　Measures should be taken to improve the situation. To begin with, government should pay more attention to the promotion of Chinese culture so that people, young and old, can learn more and be proud of our own language. 　　其實，爸爸讀書時英語也不怎么好，但為了給我補起來，，他買了英語磁帶、英語詞典，先自己學(xué)，然后給我教。首先，從最基本的英文字母a、b、c、d……開始，爸爸讀一個，我跟著讀一個，開始我覺得很難學(xué)的，特別是“i”“r”這兩個字母怎么也讀不準(zhǔn)、分不清。后來，爸爸給我教了個辦法，小樹發(fā)芽是r，這樣我一下就分清了這兩個字母的`讀音，等我會讀這些字母時，開始教我怎樣在英語本上寫，學(xué)會這些才教我學(xué)習(xí)單詞，爸爸把單詞歸了類。先教我1-10這十個數(shù)字的讀寫，再教星期的讀寫……學(xué)單詞可比學(xué)字母又難多了，一個單詞讀上三五次也讀不準(zhǔn)，但我們不放棄，反反復(fù)復(fù)的讀，直到讀會為止，讀會再教我背下這個單詞，爸爸要求我每天記兩個單詞。一有時間還要聽聽英語磁帶。

　　unfortunately, about two years ago, the news that he got cancer flew into our ears. however, he still went on singing and teaching. he had been struggling with the disease until the last minute. as the newspapers reported, he didnt close his eyes when he died. someone said it was because he had a wish unfulfilled. he had hoped to give the last performance in hk in september, but his illness prevented him from doing that. it may be the biggest regret in his life. its also said that he only weighed 32 kilograms at the end of his life. you cant imagine how much he had suffered from the disease. but every time we saw him in public, he was wearing a smile.
