n our modern society, the concept of independent thought is fast becoming obsolete. These days, anyone unsure of what to think about a certain issue can simply go online or turn on the television and a host of bloggers, pundits, and analysts are ready and willing to tell them where they should stand on an important topic. Although the Internet has made sharing one's opinion much easier, it is also making it increasingly difficult to think for one's self. The old fashion way of forming an opinion, by examining the facts and shaping an opinion from them, is under fire from a news media that wants to tell us not only what is happening but how we should feel about the unfolding events. Now more than ever, the ability to think for one's self is an important skill and realize the importance of doing so.
The ability to think for one's self is becoming a lost art today. Too many people take the easy way out and simply allow the majority to do their thinking for them. But thinking for one's self has little to do with always going against the majority. Whether you side with the majority or not is less important than how you decided whom to side with. As long as you arrive at the conclusion by yourself and don't allow yourself to be influenced by others, you are making the right decision. Aristotle once said “It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.”
In the recent, it is reported that students commitsuicides after school authorities make publicannouncement of disciplinary measures againstthose culprits violating certain school regulations.Oftentimes, those culprits’ parents would sueschools for compensations. No matter how muchmoney they are compensated, it can not change the fact that the dead students are not toregenerate. Some educationalists hence suggestthat public announcement of disciplinarymeasures be abolished. They argue that students are fragile in psychology for they are theonly children and usually get too much protection from families. But should theyget away withpunishments? I do not think so.
Firstly, as students have already borne in their mind the consequences that if they breakcertain school regulations, they must take the responsibility. They should accept any duepunishments. I do not believe that those students have no idea of what those regulations areor any previous regulation enforcements. Generally speaking, they are repeatedly told not tobreach school norms and regulations by their head teachers and parents. Before students sitcertain exams, they will be reminded again of disposing of any materialrelevant toexaminations. They will also be informed what consequences they are to bear if they don’tconform to the regulations. Therefore, if they still intend to break norms and regulations, theymust accept any forms of punishment without complaints. Otherwise, norms and regulationswould have no bonding effects.
Secondly, the purpose of public announcement of disciplinary measures is to help thoseculprits by supervision of the public. As people tend to hold their mistakes from being revealedto other people, they actually avoid acknowledging their mistakes and are unwilling to correctthem. After the publication of their mistakes, culprits would be judged by their classmates, friends and teachers, and hence they can be imposed pressures not to err again. Without thepublication, as those culprits may regard school authorities as lenient, they can get away withlight punishments. It is more likely that they would err in the same manner.
In a word, the public announcement of disciplinary measures means to help those culprits, instead of punishing them for the punishment’s sake. Some culprits may be not ready to acceptthe criticism after the public announcement is made. If this is the case, why do they not take awhile to decide whether it is worthwhile to make these mistakes? Isn’t it irresponsible thatthey make mistakes and want to get away with duepunishments?
My View on Opportunities
There is a quotation with unknown origin, “The fool miss opportunities, the wise are good at seizing opportunities, and the success create opportunities.” Actually, opportunities are given to those who are well-prepared.
Opportunities are really miraculous. They often appear around us as a matter of fact. While wiser can find them and get achievement by using them, fools frequently miss them and then complain the unfair of fate. It is because opportunities favor well-prepared brains. Only these brains can recognize and seize opportunities. 83
An old Chinese saying says, “One minute on stage needs ten years under stage.” When we are envious of those superstars’ great chances, fete and success, their efforts behind the flowers and applause are ignored.
No pains, no gains. Someone consider scientists’ great findings as a result of accident chances. Obviously it’s wrong. Without many years’ research, could Fleming become the finder of penicillinWithout thousands of times’ experiments, could Edison know the most proper material to make filament
There’re many people only waiting for, calling and dreaming about opportunities. They don’t realize, for them, opportunities are just like
plenty of stars, can be seen but not touch. Even opportunity appears, they can not find it, let alone catch and use it.
Whether we can hold an use opportunities or not depends on our preparing in knowledge and thought and our diligence. Let’s try having a well-prepared brain to be a success.
Directions: Study the following cartoon carefully and write an essay in which you should
1) desCRIbe the cartoon briefly;
2) interpret the social phenomenon reflected by it, and
3) give your point of view.
The cartoon vividly illustrates a gang of youngsters, holding axes in their hands, are rushing to fight with others. The caption reads, “Juvenile delinquency is increasingly lower than normal age.”
Careful deliberation of this problem has given me several ideas as to why this should be so. To begin with, with the rising divorce rate, some children are not properly taken care of, and are easily led astray by evildoers. What is more, devoid of the nourishment of education and a school environment, the teenagers failing in various entrance examinations become full of resentment at a society which they feel has rejected them. Last but not least, inexperienced and gullible young people plunge into the illusory world of electric games, on-line chat or even pornography. Such alienation from proper social values is the slippery slope to CRIme.
It is my view that, first of all, the whole of society should attach great importance to the sound growth of youngsters. Furthermore, proper guidance and protection of adults and schools are vital to teenagers. To sum up, if we exert every effort, the juvenile CRIme rate will undoubtedly be brought down and effectively controlled in a short while.
a blind man is walking down the street with his seeing-eye dog one day. they come to a busy intersection, and the dog, ignoring the high volume of traffic zooming by on the street, leads the blind man right out into the thick of traffic. this is followed by the screech of tires and horns blaring as panicked drivers try desperately not to run the pair down.
the blind man and the dog finally reach the safety of the sidewalk on the other side of the street, and the blind man pulls a cookie out of his coat pocket, which he offers to the dog.a passerby, having observed the near fatal incident, cant control his amazement and says to the blind man, "why on earth are you rewarding your dog with a cookie? he nearly got you killed!"the blind man turns partially in his direction and replies,
"to find out where his head is, so i can kick his ass."

There is no trouble answering it。 The source of selfishness is the pursuit of one's own interests, such as money and fame。 In order to satisfy themselves, selfish persons can do everything regardless of other's interests。 He also thinks it right that nothing ventured, nothing gained。 As a result, many selfish people end up in prison。
There is no point living only for oneself。 On earth, we live in so ciety which needs warm hearted people who help each other, therefore no one can say he doesn't aeed other's help。 Who can live completely alone?
